I got a Halloween head
head full of tricks and treats, it leads me through the nighttime streets
black cats and fallen trees
under ladders, always walkin’
salt shaker spills, just throw it over your shoulder, babe
I’m not the biggest Halloween fan. I’m afraid of scary movies, I don’t like candy, and the thought of going out dressed as a slutty nurse/cop/bumblebee/axe murderer makes me incredibly self-conscious.
However, I do love any excuse for a party (especially a themed one), and fashion is one of my favorite things, which means I will, in fact, be dressing up for the holiday this year. I don’t want to give away my costume to everyone just yet, but I will say it’s partially inspired by the $1,500 Dior newspaper dress my fashion icon (Sarah Jessica Parker, aka Carrie Bradshaw) wore not once, but twice, on Sex and the City.
I’ll also admit my costume is not a cat, an Olympic gymnast, a fairy, Alice in Wonderland, Penny Lane or Taylor Swift… since I’ve already done those.
Anyway, I’ll post pictures of the final look once it all comes together and I debut it for my friends. In the meantime, if you’re pressed for a last-minute costume, one of my favorites (which I have done more than once) is a party animal. It’s so easy, and it gives you an excuse to wear a party dress — or a jumpsuit, in my case. Combine that with animal ears, a tail, a little face makeup, and of course, a party hat! Then you’re all set.
